Codex Sinaiticus on CNN.com

Countless bibliobloggers have already noted the recent news about the complete digital version of Codex Sinaiticus. The manuscript’s online home is located at http://www.codexsinaiticus.org/. Yet, I wanted to point out that as I type this post, CNN is featuring an article on the codex as the principal story on CNN.com. Yes, sensationalist reporting by news agencies generally run counter to biblical scholarship, but it is still nice to see an ancient biblical manuscript getting so much attention.

Update: So it might not be the “complete” text of Sinaiticus because a new leaf which may belong to the codex was recently rediscovered. The leaf contains the text of Joshua 1. See Tommy Wasserman’s post for more details.

I think CNN blew up Sinaiticus… I haven’t been able to access the link for the last hour.

You’re probably right. Although in a few days the press will forget about it and the site traffic will be much more manageable.

Sadly it is no longer on the front page. What knocked it off? Michael Jackson, of course.

But, I will be watching the MJ memorial. Curiosity, respect, and good music.

I knew it wouldn’t have lasted very long on the homepage, which is why I print-screened it. It was probably only featured because they didn’t have anything else to highlight at 2am EST.
