Jesus and Rabbinic Parables

I briefly touched on this subject last week, but I thought I’d make mention of Derek Leman’s recent post titled Rabbinic Parables and Yeshua. In this post he looks at Gary Porton’s chapter “The Parable in the Hebrew Bible and in Rabbinic Literature” in The Historical Jesus in Context, edited by Amy-Jill Levine, Dale C. Allison Jr., and John Dominic Crossan (Princeton: Princeton University, 2006). Leman’s post makes for an interesting read and I suggest it for anyone looking to learn more about seeing Jesus within his Jewish context.

Hey, Brandon. This is the first I’m looking at your blog. Just a suggestion/question…how ’bout summarizing something like this a little bit more instead of just suggesting it? Like more of a little review? Just wondering.

Thanks for stopping by, Kevin. My main point was to highlight Derek’s post, which is already a review of Porton’s article. I didn’t see the need to further summarize or evaluate it, especially since I don’t have Porton’s text at my disposal. I do plan on talking about rabbinic literature and the Mishnah specifically in a future post, so stay tuned.
