Many other bloggers have and will note that today, July 10, marks John Calvin’s 500th birthday. I’ve posted a happy birthday cake in his honor:

…I’ll probably regret this in the morning.
The original photo I found by searching for Calvin Birthday Cake on Flickr. I, of course, added the quick sketch of the reformer myself.
Update: See Matthew Dowling’s post. Also, here’s Calvin with a birthday hat.

I think that is a fine looking cake. But you mean “July” 10 (not June), unless we all missed Calvin’s birth a month ago :)
Fixed! Thanks Mike. That’s what happens when I’m blogging at 1:30 am. ;-)
Nice cake!
Apparently Brandon wasn’t the only one who thought Calvin’s birthday was last month. ;-)
That’s awesome! He actually posted it in June, which makes it all the better!
hahahaha. He totally stole your picture. I bet it took some time to draw in that Calvin.
I’m so sorry!! I’m a new-ish blogger and am still coming to terms with the etiquette of the world of blogs. I have changed to post in question accordingly and will be more discerning in the future with attributes.
Peace.
Matthew,
It’s okay! I just thought it was funny, that’s all. You’re totally welcome to use the picture, but usually a courtesy link back to the source would be the proper thing to do. All the best!
Thanks Brandon. =)
Here’s my penance: http://tiny.cc/68Nmq
No need for penance! This is Calvin’s day after all. ;-)
No disrespect intended (okay, a little), but is Calvin’s head being pictured as a bomb being deployed from the birthday cake plane?
Did John Piper put you up to this, Brandon!
Obviously it’s a metaphor for the way in which Calvin’s theology hit Europe with an explosive force.
Yes, the Anabaptists felt said force ;)
Nice cake!
Check out this one: http://theologica.blogspot.com/2009/07/if-youre-looking-for-cake-ideas.html
Very nice cake! Wish I’d seen it Friday, but I am wondering what flavor blue-green icing has? ;)
My guess is vanilla with food coloring. That’s what we did when we wanted to make orange icing on Halloween. But I have no idea what that cake tasted like.
