Two Cool Jobs: Egyptologist and Forgery Expert

The Discovery Channel website has a put together an online video series called Cool Jobs. I found two of the videos worth sharing here on the blog. Hopefully they’ll add a video with a biblical scholar because I can’t imagine a better job than that.

  • The first video features Kara Cooney an Egyptologist at UCLA. She briefly describes the whole process of what it takes to become an Egyptologist and the nature of the work. If you’re looking to work in the ancient world, you’ll probably find it helpful, or at least interesting.

  • The second video focuses on the work of Baruch Halpern, Chair in Jewish Studies and Professor of Ancient History, Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies, and Religious Studies at Penn State. He talks about identifying forgeries and how that relates to the rewriting of history. He also mentions some cult classics like the James Ossuary and the Shroud. Give a watch.

There’s nothing stopping Bible scholars from becoming forgery experts. In fact, I’d argue that it’s part of the job (as did Baruch Halpern in the piece, thanks for the link).

    Brandon,
Whoa! Whoa! Just one darn second. Are you saying that the James Ossuary is a fake? No way! I think you’re being an uber-sceptic. ;-)
