Hello and welcome to my blog, Sitzimleben.com. This blog is a biblioblog, which simply means that its main focus is on the academic study of the Bible. I am primarily interested in the origins of Christianity, though I hope to touch on topics related to all aspects of the Bible and ancient religion. Thus, the blog will focus on the New Testament, its Greco-Roman and Jewish backgrounds, and other early Christian writings.
I’m Brandon Wason, by the way. I used to write on the now defunct Novum Testamentum Blog and have been around the biblioblogging community since 2005. My interest in the academic study of the Bible began nearly a decade ago, and since then I have been fostering that interest through reading, formal education, and even blogging. As an undergrad, I studied classics and sought to understand the language, culture, and history of the ancient Mediterranean world. Then I moved to Atlanta in order to work on a Masters in Theological Studies at Candler School of Theology, Emory University. At Emory I recontextualized my work on the Bible within a theological setting. Although I am generally more interested in historical aspects of early Christianity, I try to view the texts through the lenses of both history and theology. While at Candler I also gained a greater interest in and appreciation for the Jewish milieu of Christian origins, which has also helped to balance out my Classics degree. I’m now in my first year as a PhD student in New Testament at Emory University. I am very grateful to be staying at Emory and to work with so many first-class scholars. It is my hope that this blog will function as a sounding board for ideas and help me to interact with other people interested in early Christianity.
